SEARHC Receives “Chasing Zero” Award

SITKA  – The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is proud to have been presented with the 2014 Chasing Zero Award by Mountain-Pacific Quality Health. Both SEARHC’s Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka and Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau received the award for maintaining zero Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) for the past two years. In order to win the Chasing Zero Award, hospitals must maintain zero CAUTIs for a full year.     [Read more]

SEARHC to conduct behavioral risk study

JUNEAU – SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is sponsoring the 2014 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), a biannual telephone survey that will be conducted over a two month period this year from October to November. At least 600 households in Southeast Alaska will be invited to participate in a 15 minute, confidential, telephone survey that focuses on gathering health related information. Health care indicators of interest include things like healthcare access, quality of life, and health practices that affect the prevalence of chronic disease.     [Read more]

Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital hosts free health-related speaker series

SITKA – Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital is hosting “Doc Talks,” a free, health-related speaker series that will run on Wednesday evenings, starting September 10th. Each Wednesday from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm, a Mt. Edgecumbe provider will present a different topic and will be available to answer questions from the audience. Community members may choose to attend as many as they like.     [Read more]

Probable case of PSP is a reminder not to eat recreationally procured shellfish

JUNEAU – The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) warns Southeast Alaskans not to harvest and eat shellfish in our region. A probable case of paralytic shellfish poisoning over the weekend has prompted the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, Section of Epidemiology, to put out a statement regarding the ever-present risk of paralytic shellfish poisoning, or PSP, in recreationally-harvested Alaska shellfish.     [Read more]
