Further Your Education at SEARHC

Edgecumbe Hospital and SEARHC clinics in Southeast Alaska provide internships and careers in Native health care including pharmacy externships. High school and college students are encouraged to explore SEARHC education opportunities.

High School

Health Careers – Most students are not aware of how many different kinds of jobs there are in the health care field. Explore the types of jobs in healthcare and ways to prepare for a career in health

Ethel Lund VHOP – The goal of this Village Health Occupations Program (VHOP) is to expose Native students from the rural communities to as many different health careers as possible.

Summer Internships – Interns receive valuable on the job training in their health care career of interest and earn a minimal hourly stipend.

College/Grad School

Pharmacy Student Externships – SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital offers several 12-week externships each year for pharmacy students. A staff pharmacist serves as preceptor for each student.

Other Education Programs

EMS/Wilderness Medicine Training – The program provides Emergency Trauma Technician (ETT), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and other emergency/first aid training classes throughout Southeast.

Human Patient Simulation (HPS) – The SEARHC high fidelity HPS program is available to all health care providers in SE Alaska. We have scenarios that are appropriate for prehospital and clinical care.
