- Youth Ambassador Program
SEARHC is now offering a new program known as the Youth Ambassador Program to Native and non-native youth in Southeast. One high school junior or senior from each community residing in Southeast Alaska will have the opportunity to become a leader for the entire school year. Suicide task force members will serve as one-on-one mentors for Youth Ambassador Participants. The Youth Ambassadors will meet at least once in person and every month by teleconference. They will discuss what is happening at their schools, and work on ways to encourage students to find alternatives to suicide. Youth Ambassadors will also work with their local school districts and city council. Being part of the Youth Ambassador program offers opportunity and exposure to high school juniors and seniors by:
- Defining participant's goals for their community.
- Addressing and uncovering issues affecting their community and discussing ways to address them.
- Furthering participant's professional development.
- Enhancing participant's skills while developing new ones.
- Continuing to expand an established network of Youth leaders.
- Each student can put their Youth Ambassador experience on their resume as they apply for college the following year.
It is with this determination that the 1 is 2 Many Task Force wants to collaborate with all Southeast Alaska partners especially the Youth to endeavor in a community-based approach for suicide prevention. SEARHC encourages all high school juniors and seniors to apply by September 22 every year. For further information, email Megan Gregory.
