Financial Counselor at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital

Please join me in welcoming SEARHC’s new, on-site financial counselor at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, Amy Fredrickson.

Amy is here to assist our patients with questions about their bills; she can accept payments and will help with any billing related concerns. Amy will also work in partnership with social services and our alternate health resources staff to assist patients with their financial and coverage questions when they have been admitted or seen at our hospital. She is also able to assist patients with applications for the hospital’s charity care.

Amy is part the team who answers the phone when a patient calls our toll free number for billing questions, that number is 1-877-966-8433. Should you have specific questions for her, she can be reached directly at (907) 966-8862.

We also have patient financial services staff in Juneau lead by our PFS Manager Rachel Stauffer who can answer any billing questions, assist with payments and they can be reached at the same toll free number or by calling her directly at (907) 463-6644.

National Nurses Week MAY 6-12

Nurses are the first line of defense in the prevention of illness and injury. They champion and promote the health of our nation.

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on Florence Nightingale’s birthday, May 12th. Nightingale is widely recognized as the founder of modern nursing.

Please join me in recognizing and thanking the nurses at SEARHC as healthcare leaders and trusted advisers on health issues. They play a critical role in our organization and we appreciate them for their important contributions and their ability to improve patient care and outcomes.

Free Health Insurance for Alaska Natives/American Indians

Through a collaboration between SouthEast Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC), Alaska Natives and American Indians may be eligible for free additional health insurance coverage through a trial program. This program, known as Tribally Sponsored Health Insurance Program (T-SHIP), is available to those that meet the program’s criteria.

Alaska Native and American Indian people have some excellent opportunities for health insurance coverage available; the T-SHIP program offers free insurance and the Health Insurance Marketplace offers insurance at reduced premium rates and out of pocket expenses depending on income.

Anyone interested in being screened for health insurance coverage should call Andrea Thomas at (907) 966-8883 or email her at
