March 08 2011The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Health Promotion department will host free health screenings for adults age 18 and older on Tuesday, April 5, in Kake. The free health screenings take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the SEARHC Kake Health Center, located at 100 Totem Way. Participants are encouraged to schedule 20-minute appointments for their health screenings, but they can be seen as walk-in patients. Be aware there may be a wait for walk-in patients. The biometric health screenings involve a blood pressure reading and a simple blood test that gives people their non-fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) results. Health professionals will be available to discuss screening results with patients. While the biometric health screenings don't replace a person's annual visit to his or her medical provider, the screening results can let people know if they are at risk for chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease or stroke. For more information or to make an appointment for your health screening, contact SEARHC Community Wellness Advocate Georgie Davis-Gastelum in Kake at 785-6516 or email@example.com.
