February 24 2011The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Health Promotion department will host free health screenings for adults age 18 and older on Saturday, March 12, in Hoonah. The free health screenings take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday in a classroom next to the Hoonah City Schools New Gym, located at 366 Garteeni Highway. Participants are encouraged to call ahead and schedule 20-minute appointments for their health screenings. Walk-in patients can be seen, but be aware there may be a wait for walk-in patients. The biometric health screenings involve a blood pressure reading and a simple blood test that gives people their non-fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) results. SEARHC Community Dietitian, Kari Natwick, RD, LD, CLEC, will be available to discuss screening results with patients. While the biometric health screenings don't replace a person's annual visit to his or her medical provider, the screening results can let people know if they are at risk for chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease or stroke. For more information or to make an appointment for your health screening, contact SEARHC Health Educator Renae Mathson in Sitka at 966-8797 or email@example.com, or call SEARHC Community Health Aide Practitioner Carlie Brown in Hoonah at 945-3235 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
