SEARHC EMS offers Wilderness First Responder course

The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Emergency Medical Services department is offering an extended Wilderness First Responder course from Jan. 4 to Feb. 5, 2011, in Sitka. The class takes place from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, at the SEARHC At Kaník Hít Community Health building, on the lower part of SEARHC’s Sitka campus. The course fee is $450, which includes all materials. The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 31, 2010. The minimum age for students is 18 years old, but people ages 16 or 17 may attend with parent/guardian permission. The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) curriculum is geared for those who work or play on land or sea, and no prior experience is required.
