JUNEAU – The Healing Hand Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Debra O’Gara as its new Executive Director. Ms. O’Gara will be working closely with the Board of Directors with its fundraising campaigns and increasing access for Alaskan Natives to unfunded healthcare services.
The Healing Hand Foundation, formerly known as The SEARHC Foundation, was formed in 2001 to help fill the funding gap in health care services for Southeast Alaskan Native people. Good healthcare is essential for the success of both the individual and the community. Though many Native beneficiary health needs are provided by the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) and funded by the Indian Health Services and other federal monies, there continues to be a large gap with significant and essential services or items not available through SEARHC. The Healing Hand Foundation can help to pay for pharmaceuticals, durable medical equipment or emergency patient escort travel expenses that are not covered by SEARHC or the patients’ insurance plan. Applications for assistance can be downloaded from www.searhc.org.
Donations to Healing Hands have been generous and varied from large corporate gifts to payroll deduction contributions from employees of SEARHC, Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, Tlingit and Haida Regional Housing Authority, and Goldbelt, Inc. In 2009 the Sealaska Corporation provided a $500,000 direct grant to be equally distributed annually over five years. Sealaska also committed an additional $500,000 in matching funds for all donations received by Healing Hands.
For those interested in learning more about the Healing Hand Foundation, making a donation or setting up a regular payroll deduction contribution, please contact Debra O’Gara at 3245 Hospital Drive, Juneau, AK 99801, 907-364-4404, email@example.com.
