The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) recently hired Maria Marra to direct the new Performance Improvement Division.
The new Performance Improvement Division coordinates a consortium-wide approach to quality improvement. The division includes three performance improvement managers (one at the Ethel Lund Medical Center in Juneau, one at S’áxt’ Hít Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka and one Sitka-based manager who works with SEARHC’s Community Health Care Services Division), four patient advocates (based in Sitka, Juneau, Klawock and Anchorage), two infection control/safety officers (based in Sitka and Juneau), an employee health nurse and a data specialist. As division director, Marra will become a part of SEARHC’s Operations Leadership Team and she will report directly to the chief operating officer.
Marra has been with SEARHC for more than 18 years and has been an integral part in the planning and development of the new division. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Chamberlain College of Nursing in St. Louis. She also is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ). Marra’s many years of experience with SEARHC include work in quality, accreditation, patient safety, risk management, administration, infection control, customer satisfaction, and critical care and emergency services. Marra currently is based in Juneau, but she eventually will move to Sitka.
“I’m excited about being a part of SEARHC’s new endeavor,” Marra said. “We have always been about quality, and to have a consortium-wide program will allow us to be more consistent and to use our resources to provide the highest quality care possible.”
