SITKA – Now is the time to apply for affordable health care coverage if you currently do not have health insurance. You may be eligible for lower cost insurance based on your income, age, and number of people in your family. The Affordable Care Act deadline for required insurance coverage is March 31, 2014. Those that do not have health insurance in place by that date must be eligible for and file an exemption form or face a tax penalty in 2015.
There will be two more enrollment events in Sitka at the UAS Student Success Center on Tuesday, March 25th and Thursday, March 27th from 5:30-7:30pm. You will get assistance by trained staff to enroll on www.healthcare.gov. Please make sure to bring your income verification (2012 /2013 tax information), Social Security number, Date of birth and, if applicable, Green Cards for every member of your income tax household.
Signing up is easy and there are many ways to get help. You may also call the national line at 1-800-318- 2596, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week or go online at www.healthcare.gov. “People have been amazed with the affordable monthly rates they’ve received through the Marketplace” says Andrea Thomas, Outreach & Enrollment Manger for SEARHC.
If you haven’t enrolled in affordable health care, the time to act is now. For more information contact SEARHC at 966-8883.
