JUNEAU – Beginning on September 16th, the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) will be offering the option of Group Medical Visits at the Ethel Lund Medical Center in Juneau to its patients living with diabetes.
Group Medical visits are shared medical appointments with others who have the same health condition and include the participation of a medical provider and diabetes educator. Each group consists of approximately 10 – 15 patients with visits typically lasting 2 hours. A light meal will be provided.
During the visit, patients have time to talk with others who have diabetes, learn more about related health issues, and explore skills that might help them better manage their diabetes.
In addition to having the opportunity to share problems and concerns with the group, patients may also meet with their provider privately.
Group Medical Visits are a relatively new concept, and are becoming increasingly popular because they help address many aspects of care that may be difficult to cover during the typical 15- to 20-minute office visit. SEARHC is pleased to be able to offer this progressive option to its patients living with diabetes.
For more information, patients in Juneau are encouraged to speak to their medical provider, local Diabetes Educator, or contact Maybelle Filler, Diabetes Grants Program Manager at (907) 966-8739 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Patients may also call the Ethel Lund Medical Center at 463-6664 to schedule participation in a group visit.
