Free blood pressure checks in honor of American Heart Month

February 03 2010

WHAT: Free blood pressure checks for local Sitkans. WHERE: You can have your blood pressure checked at Sea Mart, Market Center or AC Lakeside Grocery. WHEN: 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 6-7. WHO: This event is sponsored by Sitka Community Hospital and the SEARHC WISEWOMAN Women’s Health Program. WHY: February is American Heart Month, which is set aside to raise awareness about heart health and how people can prevent heart disease and strokes. For women, heart screening is especially important. Many women do not realize that one in two women will die of heart disease or stroke. It also is the leading cause of death for men and women in Southeast Alaska. By getting screened and having your blood pressure checked, you may be able to detect high blood pressure early when it is most treatable. CONTACTS: Susan Suarez, SEARHC WISEWOMAN Women’s Health Recruitment Coordinator, at 966-8459 for more information.
