SITKA — For those that currently do not have health insurance, now is the time to apply for affordable health care coverage. You may be eligible to receive assistance with your monthly premiums, co-pays and deductibles, depending on your income, age and number of people in your family. The Affordable Care Act deadline for signing up for insurance is March 31, 2014.
Signing up is easy, and there are several ways to get support. You can call the national line at 1-800-318- 2596, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. People with computers can go online to healthcare.gov, which is now working well. If you have made attempts in the past and had problems, it is a good idea to delete your old application and start again.
In Southeast Alaska there are people available to assist you. In Juneau please contact Crystal Bourland at United Way at 907-523-1147. Enroll Alaska can be reached at 855-385-5550.
