HAINES – Today, Lynn Canal Counseling Services (Lynn Canal) and SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) announced the consolidation of their behavioral health services as a step toward securing sustainable comprehensive mental health and substance abuse services for the communities of Haines and Klukwan. Through the consolidation, SEARHC will provide all management and operational support to Lynn Canal, which will retain its name and become a new Haines-based department of SEARHC. JUNEAU – Effective August 1, 2015, eligible SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) employees of either gender may access eight additional weeks of parental leave benefits to bond and care for their newborn or newly adopted child. HOONAH – After months of construction, the SouthEast Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Hoonah Health Center has moved into a new medical facility at 490 Gartina Highway. JUNEAU – The SouthEast Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) and the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is pleased to announce that SEARHC dentists, Matthew J West, DMD, FAGD, of Juneau, and Mandie L Smith, DDS, FAGD, of Sitka, each received the AGD’s Fellowship Award. JUNEAU – SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is pleased to announce the hiring of an additional pediatrician, Dr. Marna Schwartz. Dr. Schwartz will be providing regular pediatric medical services at SEARHC outpatient clinics in the smaller communities it serves.
She will be visiting Haines and Klawock every other month, and will be in Hoonah, Angoon, and Kake four times a year. She will begin seeing patients first in Kake from June 24-26, in Angoon July 8-10, Haines from July 13-17, and will be in Hoonah and Klawock sometime in August. [Read more]
JUNEAU – In its ongoing endeavor to become the provider of choice in the region, the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) will soon be opening its Juneau Behavioral Health services to the entire community.
Up to now, SEARHC’s behavioral health services in Juneau were available solely for Alaska Native/American Indian patients. Beginning Monday, June 1, the SEARHC Juneau Behavioral Health clinic will be accepting all patients. [Read more]
JUNEAU – In February 2014, SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) began the implementation of its After-Hours Nurse Triage Line throughout the Consortium’s outpatient clinics. The goal was to make a free resource available that enables patients to obtain health care information and triaging services when their local clinic is not open.
This year, SEARHC is receiving two awards for having implemented this service for its patients. [Read more]
SITKA – SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital is pleased to announce the recent hiring of Hospital Administrator, Jeff Prater. He began work at the Consortium on January 13th. Prater fills a position held by Interim Administrator, Noel Rea who has been an integral part in the management of Mt. SITKA – The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is proud to have been presented with the 2014 Chasing Zero Award by Mountain-Pacific Quality Health. Both SEARHC’s Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka and Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau received the award for maintaining zero Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) for the past two years. In order to win the Chasing Zero Award, hospitals must maintain zero CAUTIs for a full year. [Read more]

Contrary to the belief by some that influenza is simply a bad cold, the influenza virus, commonly referred to as “the flu” is much more serious. [Read more]
JUNEAU – SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is sponsoring the 2014 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), a biannual telephone survey that will be conducted over a two month period this year from October to November. At least 600 households in Southeast Alaska will be invited to participate in a 15 minute, confidential, telephone survey that focuses on gathering health related information. Health care indicators of interest include things like healthcare access, quality of life, and health practices that affect the prevalence of chronic disease. [Read more]
SITKA – Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital is hosting “Doc Talks,” a free, health-related speaker series that will run on Wednesday evenings, starting September 10th. Each Wednesday from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm, a Mt. Edgecumbe provider will present a different topic and will be available to answer questions from the audience. Community members may choose to attend as many as they like. [Read more]
