Vaccine priority groups for seasonal flu
The CDC lists eight priority groups for the seasonal flu vaccine based on their risk for complications from influenza or because they are in close contact with someone at higher risk of flu complications:
- Children ages 6 months old through their fifth birthday;
- Pregnant women;
- People age 50 and older;
- People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease);
- People who live in nursing homes or other long-term care facilities;
- Household contact with people at high risk for complications from influenza;
- Household contact with out-of-home caregivers of children ages 6 months or younger; and
- Health care workers.
